JAIKO HAMWEENZU VS. THE PEOPLE – CAZ APPEAL NO. 78/2023

Court of Appeal upholds a life imprisonment sentence imposed on Jaiko Hamweenzu of Kapiri Mposhi who caused the death of an eight year old girl by suffocating her during the course of a very violent sexual assault of anal penetration. The Court of Appeal went further to state that the depressing circumstances of the case warranted the imposition of a very severe sentence, even if the appellant was a first offender who readily admitted the charge.
