NPA Celebrates Excellence at Inaugural DPP’s End-of-Year Awards

The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) marked the end of 2024 with the first ever DPP’s End-of-Year Awards, a celebration of dedication, innovation, and excellence. Attended by senior management and staff, the event highlighted the institution’s milestones and recognised exceptional contributions to its mission.

In her opening remarks, the Chief State Advocate, on behalf of DPP Mr. Gilbert A. Phiri SC, applauded staff for their commitment to delivering quality prosecution services despite challenges such as load shedding and resource constraints. She highlighted notable successes, including advancements in Asset Recovery, reduced case backlogs, and the introduction of key policy documents such as the Prosecutors’ Manual, Code of Conduct, and Strategic Plan.

The awards honoured two teams for their remarkable achievements:

  1. NPA Livingstone Office
Awarded for Innovative Interpretation of Ethical Standards, the Livingstone office declared itself a corruption-free zone with a prominent banner at its premises and conducted surveys to assess their cooperation with stakeholders. Their proactive approach reflects a strong alignment with the NPA’s commitment to integrity. The team received a cash prize of K10,000.
Speaking on behalf of the Southern Province Deputy Chief State Advocate, Senior State Advocate Ms. Jackline Elizabeth Banda thanked the DPP, Chief State Advocate and the Acting Chief Administrator for fostering an enabling environment and pledged to achieve even more in 2025.
  2. Organising Committee of the National Annual Prosecutors’ Conference
This team was recognised for their exceptional organisation of the expanded Prosecutors’ Conference. The committee ensured the event was fully funded through stakeholder contributions, with no financial burden on the NPA. Their efforts also enabled widespread media coverage and online access for remote participants. They received a cash prize of K10,000. Deputy Chief State Advocate in the Gender Based Crimes Department, who chaired this committee, Mrs. Chali Hambayi encouraged members of committee to embrace such roles again in future, emphasising the professional growth and future opportunities they offer. She added the NPA was trail blazing in the region and beyond in hosting such a conference, which has inspired countries like Namibia and Ireland to consider similar initiatives.

As the NPA looks ahead to 2025, the awards serve as proof to the institution’s commitment to excellence and its resolve to further enhance justice delivery for all Zambians.
