As we approach 30 years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was promulgated, we are reminded of our overarching duty both as the National Prosecution Authority as well as Activists in the fight against Gender Based Violence.
As such, the National Prosecution Authority of Zambia reaffirms its unwavering commitment to ending violence against women and girls.
We, as an institution are dedicated to fostering equity,inclusivity and respect internally as we provide and strive for a healthy and sexist free work environment. We also strive to provide a victim centred and trauma informed Prosecution service to all victims of GBV, our goal is to hold perpetrators accountable and deter would be offenders, penultimately delivering justice for all.
As we join the global movement of 16 days of activism against GBV, you are all reminded that the fight against GBV starts with YOU!. Let’s break the silence and build a safe Zambia for all!
As the NPA we pledge to:
- Prosecute GBV cases efficiently and effectively, ensuring perpetrators face the full force of the law.
- Support victims throughout the justice process by providing them with the care and dignity they deserve.
- Collaborate with partners to prevent GBV by addressing its root causes and promoting a culture of respect and equality.
We therefore encourage you to join us in our efforts in the fight against Gender Based Violence and all its forms by doing the following;
- Reporting GBV cases to the authorities – your voice matters; and
- Supporting victims and speak out against GBV – together, we can create a ripple effect of change. Whether it be sexual harassment in the workspace, abuse noted in the neighbourhood, play your part too!
Throughout the 16 Days of Activism, we will amp up the ante as activists in this nation wide campaign in the fight against this scourge of violence against women and girls.
