Launch of the Code of Ethics and Prosecutors Manual

The 16th of September 2024 marked a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice in Zambia, as the National Prosecution Authority launched the Code of Ethics and Prosecutors Manual at the 2nd Annual Prosecutors Conference currently being held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre. This momentous occasion was graced by   the Director of Public Prosecutions Mr Gilbert Phiri S.C accompanied by his two deputies the Chief State Advocate  Ms. Nkumbiza Mumba and the Ag Chief Administrator Ms Cassandra Soko.

The Code of Ethics and Prosecutors Manual are vital policy documents which will guide prosecutors in their critical role of upholding justice and ensuring accountability. These documents are aligned with international standards, such as the UN Guidelines on the Role of Prosecutors, which emphasise the importance of independence, impartiality, and fairness in prosecution.

The Prosecutors Manual is expected to provide clear guidelines on prosecution procedures, investigation, and decision-making, ensuring that prosecutors discharge their duties effectively and efficiently. This Manual will be an essential resource for prosecutors, helping them navigate complex cases and aiding them in making informed decisions.

The Code of Ethics is essential for maintaining the integrity of the criminal justice system and ensuring that prosecutors discharge their duties in a responsible and ethical manner.

The launch of these documents demonstrates the Director of Public Prosecution’s commitment to enhancing the professionalism and integrity of all prosecutors in Zambia. By adopting these guidelines, prosecutors will be better equipped to promote justice, protect human rights, and contribute to a fair and effective criminal justice system.

This development is a significant step forward for Zambia’s justice system, and its impact will be felt across the country.
