Transforming Masculinity: Zambia’s Coaching Boys to Men Initiative.

Chali Mbewe-Hambayi the head of the Gender Based Crimes Department at the National Prosecution Authority, chaired a significant side event during the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The side event was under   the theme “The Impact of the Coaching Boys in to Men Programme ” which is a collaborative initiative between the Zambia Centre for Communication Programmes and the government of Zambia. DPP Emerges Victorious in Forfeiture Case Against Tasila Lungu. In a significant legal victory, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) emerged victorious in a Non-Conviction Based Forfeiture case against Tasila Lungu, daughter of Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. The court’s ruling on the 19th of March, 2024, reaffirmed the DPP’s legal jurisdiction and upheld the integrity of the legal process. The genesis of this legal discourse traces back to the initiation of Non-Conviction Based Forfeiture proceedings by the DPP, represented as the Applicant. Empowering Asset Management: Zambia’s Visionary Approach.

Asset recovery serves as a powerful tool in combating illicit financial activities by sending a clear message that crime crime does not pay and that perpetrators will face consequences for their actions. It is widely recognised that transparent and accountable management of criminal assets is crucial to the asset recovery process. Effective management of these assets requires specialised skills and a need for decision-making independence among those overseeing them. In light of these considerations, it is suggested that pairing asset recovery and asset management functions within a single institution would be more logical, efficient, and effective. NPA Launches Handbook for Prosecutors on the Management of Gender Based Violence cases in Zambia

Today, on the eve of International Womens’ day, the National Prosecution Authority launched its first ever Handbook for Prosecutors on the Management of Gender Based Violence cases in Zambia. Speaking at the launch, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Gilbert Phiri, SC stated that Gender Based Violence (GBV) is a cancer that needs to be stamped out in order to create a safe and equitable society where women and girls can thrive. Mr Phiri further stated that as the gatekeeper of the criminal justice system, the NPA has the duty to ensure that victims of GBV access timely and victim centred prosecution services which safeguard their wellbeing whilst upholding their dignity and privacy.
