THE NPA SIGNS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE BASEL INSTITUTE OF GOVERNANCE. 

The National Prosecution Authority is delighted to notify the public that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Basel Institute of Governance to fight against financial crimes,  corruption and enhance asset recovery .  The Basel  Institute is an independent non profit organisation which works in the area of strengthening governance and countering corruption. Speaking at  the signing ceremony,  the Director of Public Prosecutions Mr. Gilbert Phiri said that there is need to partner in fighting illicit vices such as illegal wildlife trade, illegal mining financial crime and corruption. A strong message has to be sent to criminal elements that crime does not pay. He stated that the NPA remains resolute in its fight against corruption and financial crimes and welcomes support from partners in this noble cause. Speaking at the event, the British High Commissioner Mr Nicholas Woolley reiterated his government’s support to Zambia and has  committed to increase support to  law enforcement agencies  and the prosecution in the area of corruption and asset recovery. 

The Basel Institutes Managing Director Ms. Greta Fenner stated that such a strategic partnership will galvanise the countering of ilicit activities and build public trust and confidence in governments efforts to hold perpetrators accountable.
